DECOMPOSITION OF THE REDUCTION IN THE LEVEL OF COMPLETED COHORT FERTILITY RATE INTO PARITY COMPONENTS OF CHANGE IN BULGARIA
Stanislava MORALIYSKA-NIKOLOVA
Abstract:
The article examines the cohort fertility of Bulgarian women born in the period 1930-1970 based on parity progression ratios, obtained according to the methodology proposed by Zeman. The applied method decomposes the occurred reductions in the levels of the completed cohort fertility rate into components which are due to the occurred changes in the cohort birth rates of different parity. The necessary information base for the application of the method is provided by the HFD database and supplemented with reconstructed by the author data on the cohort birth rates of Bulgarian women based on the available data from current statistics and the NSI population censuses. The results of the analysis give reasons for determining that the very low levels reached of the value of completed cohort fertility rates in Bulgaria are mainly due to the contraction in the size of the births of second rank and much less to the shrinkage of the first rank births.
Key words: birth rate; cohorts; completed cohort birth rate; parity; decomposition.

HEALTHY LIFE YEARS IN BULGARIA BY SEX AND SPECIFIC AGES IN THE PERIOD 2011 – 2016
Evelin YORDANOVA
Abstract:
The results of the analysis of selected indicators for healthy life years by sex and for specific ages in Bulgaria in the period 2011 - 2016 are presented. Insofar as the essence of the applied method for calculating the indicators of health expectancy presupposes a complex analysis of the individual components (life expectancy and the subjective dimension of health), first of all the results of the descriptive analysis of the distributions of persons by self-perceived health and the existence of limitation, sex and age are presented. The differences in the self-perceived health, resp. the presence of limitations predetermine the differences in the values of the integrated indicator. The changes of the two indicators, calculated using both questions, are analysed sequentially. The problem of comparability of indicators calculated based on different surveys data is also discussed. A comparative analysis of healthy life years in Bulgaria in 2014 by sex and age, calculated using data from EU-SILC and EHIS is done.
Key words: Healthy life years; self-perceived health; Sullivan Method; European Health Interview Survey; Survey of Income and Living Conditions.

THE INFLUENCE OF THE RISING STATUTORY AGE OF RETIREMENT ON THE NUMBER AND SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF BULGARIAN LABOUR RESOURCES DURING THE LAST TWO DECADES
Nikolay TSEKOV
Abstract:
The tendency to deteriorate the demographic situation in Bulgaria in general and regional aspect is a major factor in the formation of a deepening imbalance between labor supply and demand in the national and regional labor markets in the country. Accelerated rates of depopulation, demographic aging and emigration of mostly young people are among the main reasons for the shrinking workforce, which includes primarily economically active people aged between 15 and 64. The deficit between the demand and the increasingly limited supply of labor has already become the most significant obstacle to new investments in the Bulgarian economy. Together with the unfavorable increase in the ratio between employed and unemployed in industry, agriculture and services, this deficit will increasingly limit the prospects for achieving the significant economic growth needed by Bulgaria in order to reduce the gap between the indicators of living standards in the country. and their average levels for the European Union as a whole. The subject of this article is a study of the impact of raising statutory age of retirement in the period 2001-2019 on the number and relative share of the economically active population as a whole and in regional terms - by districts and municipalities. The aim of the study is based on the findings of the analysis of the relationship between these two processes to assess the role of the first and second demographic dividends arising from the relatively high share of the working age population in the total population to limit the impact of demographic crisis on reproduction. of labor resources and gross domestic product growth.
Key words: demographic aging; depopulation; labour resources; demographic burden; demographic dividend.

ATTITUDES AND DISTANCES OF THE ETHNIC BULGARIANS OF REPRODUCTIVE AGE TOWARDS MIXED MARRIAGES WITH BULGARIAN NATIONALS OF TURKISH DESCENT
Lubomir STOYTCHEV
Abstract:
Data from a representative sociological survey with persons of reproductive age in the Republic of Bulgaria are analysed and discussed in the article. The focus is on the attitudes and distances of ethnic Bulgarians towards the Bulgarian nationals of Turkish origin. Fifteen key attitudes towards the Bulgarian nationals of Turkish descent are analysed in addition to an age-related interpretation of the attitudes towards the mixed marriages between ethnic Turks and ethnic Bulgarians. From a social integration perspective, the analysis and interpretation take into account important characteristics of the ethnic Bulgarians such as their education, gender, place of residence, etc. The results show that among the Bulgarian community, the negative attitudes towards mixed marriages dominate, although among the different subgroups the attitudes are nuanced and ambiguous.
Key words: Bulgarian nationals of Turkish origin; social attitudes and social distances; mixed marriages.

NATURAL MOVEMENTS OF THE POPULATION OF KYUSTENDIL DURING THE REVIVAL PERIOD
Shtelian D. SHTERIONOV
Abstract:
The main objective of this research is to establish the dynamics of the natural movements of the population of Kyustendil during the Revival period. The analysis of the available source material allows us to determine that during the investigated period the dynamics of the processes that define the natural movements of the population have a significant impact on Kyustendil’s demographic potential. In particular, the high numbers of births lead to a positive natural growth which in turns, guarantees the preservation of the available local human resources and is a precondition for their future prosperity.
Key words: historical demography; history of Kyustendil during the Revival period.
